History Of Barelang Bridge:
(Linking 7 islands south of Batam)

Although an icon of the island of Batam, Barelang Bridge is actually located quite far, about 20 km, from the city center.

Visiting Batam, Riau Archipelago, is incomplete without visiting Barelang Bridge. This bridge construction took 6 years, from
1992 to 1998. Barelang Bridge is a series of six bridges spanning 2,264 meters which connects three large islands and several
small islands including the Riau Islands province. The name of this bridge is none other than the acronym of the names of three
big islands connected by this bridge, namely Batam Island, Rempang Island, and Galang Island.

Barelang Bridge is a high-tech pilot project involving hundreds of Indonesian engineers without interference from foreign
experts. Built to expand the work area under the Batam Authority (OB) as the regulator of Batam Island industrial area.

Trans Barelang bridge builder has sucked the budget of Batam Authority (OB) of Rp 400 Billion built in period of six years
(1992 - 1998). These six magnificent bridges are a vital project to connect the Trans Barelang line which stretches for 54KM

Barelang Bridge is a name familiar to the local residents and tourists. There may be tens or hundreds of information about Batam
with its Barelang Bridge. Even the Government of Batam City bridge Barelang Bridge as a symbol of the city and also the icon for the
program Visit Batam 2010. Barelang Bridge is located about 20 kilometers from the center of Batam, Riau Islands province, Indonesia.

Barelang Bridge connects Batam Island with several small islands in the south, namely Tonton, Nipah, Sekotok, Rempang, Galang and
Galang Baru. Therefore, the name Barelang itself is a short form that comes from three islands, that is Batam, Rempang, and Galang.
The first and main bridges are officially named the Tengku Fisabililah Bridge however more familiarly known as Barelang Bridge.
